The latest system update for PlayStation 5, the September 13 Patch, introduces support for Dolby Atmos-enabled devices, including soundbars, TVs, and home theater systems.
Leveraging the previously available Tempest 3D AudioTech in various games, these titles will now support Dolby Atmos, enhancing immersion so you can enjoy the best possible sound the PS5 has to offer if you have compatible devices.
We’ll first provide a list of PS5 games that currently support Dolby Atmos. Following that, we’ll guide you through the necessary steps to enable this feature in the settings menu on your PS5.
List of PS5 Games with Dolby Atmos
Fortunately, many games support Dolby Atmos on the PlayStation 5 due to the Tempest 3D Audio. PlayStation’s senior sound design supervisor, Loïc Couthier, confirmed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that all games featuring Tempest Audio will automatically support Dolby Atmos.
Couthier also noted that games requiring a dedicated Atmos sound mix will need a patch. “There is an automatic Atmos mix for all existing games that support 3D Audio. For a bespoke Atmos mix made by the sound team, games would need a patch.” said Couthier.

Do I need to change any settings to activate Dolby Atmos on PS5?
The PS5 doesn’t switch to Dolby Atmos by default, you will have to change some settings. By following these steps, you will be able to enable Dolby Atmos on your PS5. If you have a surround sound system, such as a home theater or soundbar, you might see Dolby Atmos displayed in its corresponding mobile app.
However, note that not all systems have associated mobile apps. For example, if you have a Sonos Arc soundbar, you can check which codec is currently in use on the mobile app.
- Navigate to [Settings] on your PlayStation 5.
- Scroll down and select [Sound].
- Choose [Audio Output] from the options.
- Now, click on [Audio Format (Priority)].
- Finally, from the available formats, select [Dolby Atmos].
