How does Salt work in Phasmophobia? What makes it useful enough to consider taking with you during hunts? Salt is one of several pieces of equipment that you can purchase to aid in hunting Phasmophobia’s different ghosts.
Phasmophobia’s Salt is a useful tool for discerning the ghost’s location and preventing hunts, unlike other items primarily used for identifying the ghost’s type. It can also serve as a defensive measure during a hunt, blocking the ghost’s path. However, this only works against specific types of ghosts. Notably, wraiths will never step into salt piles under any circumstances.
How do you use Salt in Phasmophobia?
You can take up to three Salt containers with you when setting off on a hunt in Phasmophobia, each container having three charges, and it costs $15 to purchase from the store. It’s not a starting item.
When placed on the floor, salt piles reveal the footprints of ghosts that pass through them. This can help pinpoint not just the ghost’s locations but also where and how far it roams. During hunts, ghosts won’t step into the salt, it’s only during normal activity that this happens.
Doors are ideal spots for placing salt piles. Hallways come in second. Of course, you’ll have to prioritize where to place it depending on how many team members picked up the item.
Salt changes in Progression Update 2.0
In the Phasmophobia Progression Update 2.0, the role of salt will undergo various transformations. Notably, due to changes to Ultraviolet items, salt will now play a role in evidence collection during your ghost investigations.
For example, If the ghost is proving elusive and isn’t interacting with a door or window, you can lay down some salt to collect footprints.
The revamped salt system introduces three tiers of upgraded equipment, each with its unique attributes:
Tier 1: This tier features the Ghost Huntin’ Salt shaker that can deposit two piles of salt per canister, and you’re allowed to bring three canisters into each contract. Footprints formed by a ghost stepping in these salt piles will function similarly to fingerprints. For instance, an Obake may leave fewer footprints compared to other ghost types.
Tier 2: This tier introduces a wooden container brimming with special pink Himalayan salt. Thanks to its larger capacity, you can lay down three piles of salt. Furthermore, you have the option to lay a line of salt, which can effectively block doorways or corridors.
Tier 3: The most advanced tier, it equips you with a glass bottle filled with a custom blend of blessed Black Salt. When a ghost steps into this salt during its passive state, it is repelled backward, providing you with a method to confine a ghost to its room if you position the salt correctly. In the ghost’s hunting state, passing through this unique salt causes the ghost to significantly slow down for a brief period.
