Paradox Interactive has teamed up with a new third-party contractor, Dragons Lake, a development studio that’s part of the Room 8 Group, to assist in the future development and improvement of the console versions of Crusader Kings 3.
Paradox’s in-house development teams and Lab42 (previous contractor on consoles) faced challenges in addressing bugs and releasing patches for the console platforms, as it’s mostly focused on the PC version. The most recent update, Console Edition Update 11 - Fate of Iberia, was released almost 4 months ago. The PC version is being updated weekly, which was angering the console rulers among us.
Grand Strategy games present a unique challenge on consoles, says Paradox
Dragons Lake appears to be an ideal collaborator for development support, given its extensive experience with various publishers in porting and adapting games for consoles. Notable projects like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Lords of the Fallen, and Meet Your Maker are listed among its accomplishments on its official website.
“Grand Strategy games on console present unique engineering challenges for a game studio, but we believe the team at Dragons Lake has consistently demonstrated the experience and technical skill needed to tackle these challenges through their work.” said a Paradox community manager on the CK3 forums.
“We’re committed to bringing the best possible Crusader Kings III experience to all of our players regardless of which platform they play on, and we believe this partnership is an important first step in honoring that commitment as we move into the next phase of development for Crusader Kings III: Console Edition.”
Information on the next patch should arrive within a few more weeks.
Crusader Kings 3 was released for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S on the 29th March, 2022.
